Modern sports games have had a tendency to invest time and effort into features and modes guaranteed to make money while simply rehashing or very slightly tweaking last year's on-pitch action, but FIFA 10 was released at a time when refinement really did feel like refinement. Refined too was the gameplay, perhaps the most important (and increasingly the most frustrating) aspect of modern FIFA titles. Carrying the burden of pushing the franchise into a new era of gaming, EA Sport's soccer sim dragged the entire genre into a shining new epoch in the history of sports gaming. Following on from the also immensely solid FIFA 09, FIFA 10 was the first game in the series to be released exclusively for the seventh console generation.
